![]() I've been a huge poker fan for about 20 years now. I'm not nearly as good as I should be, but I can hang with most. I had an interesting conversation with my son the other day about the game. My stance is that it's a game of skill, and his was that it's nothing but luck. My son pointed out that it's such a game of luck that a new version of it is out that takes the luck factor away (see Duplicate to get an idea of what he's talking about). I pointed out that his theory was just dumb, and that in the long run the best person will win. Then I went to that new Duplicate game and it got me to wonder a bit. Now I'm questioning if the game really is all about luck or skill. I know there are a few guys that have made a living at it for many years (names like Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese come to mind), but maybe they are amongst the very few that have been able to truly figure it out. Maybe for the rest of us poker is nothing but luck? Maybe my boy was right? What do you think??
