![]() The Red Sox traded Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers. This Manny trade surprised many in the baseball world. Why was Manny traded? Why was Ramirez traded to the Dodgers? Good question! Manny has been dealt in a 3 team trade involving Jason Bay coming to the Sux, Jeremy Hermida and a Pitching Prospect to the Pirates and Manny going to Florida. Jason Bay is headed to Boston as part of the Manny deal. Pittsburgh gets pitcher Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss, both from Boston, as well as third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitching prospect Bryan Morris from the Dodgers. There was skepticism that the Dodgers would be able to put together a deal on short notice. One major hurdle was cleared earlier in the day when Ramirez said he would accept a trade to any team. Is this good for the Yanks? I’m not sure - you decide. Bay and Manny are putting up similar numbers this year, but if Boston and Manny kissed and made up, Ramirez’ production in big spots and against the Yanks would dwarf Bay’s. A sullen, unmotivated Manny, however, it’s tough to tell. The Red Sox approached Ramirez in advance of their negotiations, and got his OK. The Red Sox are paying the $7 million remaining on Ramirez's $20 million salary for this year. The two $20 million club options for each of the next two seasons were dropped, which will allow Ramirez to become a free agent this winter. I can’t believe they were able to get Jason Bay for that bum. As good as Ramirez hits, with his attitude and age, there’s no way the Sox should get Bay for him. The Sox are definitely winners in this one.
