![]() The UFC 88 results are as follows: Main Card
In the main event former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell returns to the octagon and looks to earn a shot at the 205-pound belt currently held by Forrest Griffin against Rashad Evans, the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 2 who will look to take out the promotion’s former light heavyweight king for his own potential shot at glory. In other main card bouts former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin returns to the 205-pound light heavyweight division to meet Matt Hamill, former PRIDE dual champion Dan Henderson takes on Rousimar Palhares, middleweights Martin Kampmann and Nate Marquardt clash to further climb the middleweight ladded, and Dong Hyun Kim looks to keep his undefeated record intact against Matt Brown. The UFC 88 preliminary card featured Thiago Tavares vs. Kurt Pellegrino, Tim Boetsch vs. Mike Patt, Roan Carneiro vs. Ryo Chonan, and Jason Lambert vs. Jason MacDonald. Canadian middleweight Jason (The Athlete) MacDonald rebounded from a loss last month to submit Jason (The Punisher) Lambert in the second round at UFC 88 on Saturday night at Philips Arena. The mixed martial arts fight was on the undercard of the light-heavyweight bout between former champion Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell and Rashad Evans, winner of Season 2 of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality TV show. MacDonald (22-10, including 5-3 in the UFC) started and ended the first round defending guillotine chokes, with the one at the end of the round halted by the bell. In between he managed some decent ground and pound from on top of Lambert (23-9) and all three judges gave the round to the 185-pounder from Red Deer, Alta. Carneiro also lost to Chonan in 2005, on a TKO due to a cut. Carneiro, a Brazilian who now calls Atlanta home, said going into the fight that he thinks of Chonan (15-8) every time he sees the scar. Carneiro (12-8) lost Saturday but he may have returned the favour, cutting Chonan above the eye with an elbow in the first round. The two were due to meet in June at UFC 85 but Chonan was injured. Carneiro was submitted by his replacement, Iowa banker Kevin Burns, and has now lost three of his last four outings in the UFC.
